Green DeWitt Drainage District has a responsibility to those within its jurisdiction to provide effective drainage and to responsibly manage its revenue and expenses. The District has miles of channels which are in need of review, repair or rehabilitation. Currently, the revenue raised by property taxes for the purpose of funding maintenance and operations of the District’s facilities, is simply not enough to sustain general, everyday maintenance over the years. Without enough funding for the everyday, doing things such as repairing facilities, funding engineering studies and acting on improvement projects will not be possible. The District’s board very carefully considered alternatives to setting an increase in the effective tax rate and trusts the community will understand that the District is currently is operating without funding which is adequate to its mandate.
